CFA, Founder and Portfolio Manager

Greg brings a depth of experience and a disciplined investment mindset to Red Barn Investment Counsel, grounded in capital preservation, thoughtful risk management, and sustainable long-term growth. His education, professional training, and decades of hands-on experience form the foundation of a pragmatic and client-focused investment approach.

  • Greg earned his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary and became a Chartered Accountant in 1982. He went on to co-found Peterson and Flower Chartered Accountants, successfully operating the firm from 1983 to 1988. From 1988 to 1993, Greg served as Assistant Auditor General of Bermuda, gaining valuable international experience in public finance, governance, and accountability.

While in Bermuda, Greg earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1992. Returning to Canada, he began building his financial services practice, working as an Investment Advisor from 1993 to 2000. In 2001, he achieved a long-standing professional goal by becoming a Portfolio Manager, allowing him to directly apply his investment philosophy on behalf of clients. His ultimate goal, the founding of Red Barn Investment Counsel was achieved in 2019.

Born and raised in Calgary, Greg and his wife Catherine raised their three sons there and remain deeply connected to the community. They are also proud grandparents of four. Outside the office, Greg enjoys staying active through mountain biking, golf, and skiing—activities that reflect the balance, discipline, and long-term perspective he brings to his work as a portfolio manager.

Private Client Wealth Manager

My approach to wealth management is built on a simple belief: a portfolio is only as strong as the life plan it supports. With a background as a financial advisor and a deep commitment to client-centric service, I am currently pursuing the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation to elevate further the expertise I bring to the families I serve.

  • Bridging Goals and Strategy At Red Barn Investment Counsel, I act as the vital link between a family's aspirations and their investment strategy. I spend the core of my time helping clients define their most meaningful life goals—whether that involves multi-generational legacy planning or reaching major personal milestones. By translating these objectives into actionable insights for our investment team, I ensure that every portfolio is genuinely tailored to your life.
After immigrating to Canada with my parents in the early nineties, I grew up in Calgary, where my wife and I now raise our two sons. My commitment to my Community is deeply personal. I serve as the Chairman of the Board for Supreme Hoops Canada, a non-profit dedicated to youth, and I am a passionate advocate for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) research. Since my son's diagnosis, fundraising to find a cure has become a lifelong mission. This work mirrors my professional life: providing hope and a clear path forward for families navigating complex challenges.
I'm a firm believer that a balanced life is a successful one. To stay energized, I set aside time for weight training and playing basketball. When I'm not at the gym or in the boardroom, you'll likely find me in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes or at a local venue enjoying live music. Whether I'm in the kitchen or crafting a financial plan, I've learned that the best results come from the right ingredients, careful preparation, and a genuine passion for the craft.

Operations Manager

My approach to operations is grounded in a simple principle: efficiency is the backbone of exceptional client service. With a bachelor's degree in business management from Western University and a passion for creating structure in dynamic environments, I focus on building systems that keep everything running seamlessly behind the scenes. Attention to detail and organizational excellence aren’t just skills, they’re the tools I use to ensure our team can deliver on its promises every single day.

  • As Operations Manager at Red Barn, I help facilitate the link between vision and execution. My role is to translate strategic goals into actionable processes that support both our advisors and our clients. Whether it’s streamlining workflows or implementing new solutions, I thrive on the challenge of making complex operations simple and effective.
I was born and raised in the Okanagan and made the exciting move to Calgary in September 2024. This transition has been an opportunity to grow personally and professionally while embracing a vibrant new community. Outside of work, my friends and family are what bring me the most joy and I spend most of my free time with them. Whether it’s sharing a meal, exploring the outdoors, or simply enjoying quality time together, you'll usually catch me with a smile on my face.
